‘King Arthur’ began filming in 2015 and by 2016 Charlie Hunnam had wrapped filming for ‘Papillon’ and thus was no doubt following a similar workout to his King Arthur Workout.

Charlie Hunnam Papillon Workout

The Charlie Hunnam ‘Papillon’ Workout focuses on his go to moves of Push Ups, Pull Ups/Chin Ups, Dips and Squats that he has frequently spoken about.

Charlie Hunnam loves the ‘oldskool’ workouts. This two day split focuses on a Push Day (Workout A) and Pull Day (Workout B).

Workout A
- Push Ups (Using the closer grip form in the Push Ups Program) – 5 x 20
- Diamond Push Ups – 5 x 10
- Squats – 10 x 10

Workout B
- Pull Ups – 5 x 10
- Chin Ups – 5 x 10
- Abs (Leg Raises, Planks)

Charlie Hunnam’s go-to-foods include the following. As he wasn’t bulking he was most likely in a maintenance phase.

For ‘Pacific Rim’ Charlie Hunnam’s workout was once again used Push Ups, Pull Ups/Chin Ups and Dips.

However, he’s got to be a little bit disappointed. Not because of the reviews, nor the box office returns (100M loss!) but the fact that after using progressive resistance and high volume to get up to “1,000 push ups a day” director Guy Ritchie went and put 3 ‘muscle shots’ of him in the movie! THREE! For that, Ritchie, drop and give us 10!

Charlie Hunnam is no stranger to working out, several fitness cover mag shoots indicate he’s a calisthenics fan! He’s been in shape since his early Sons Of Anarchy days through to ‘Pacific Rim’ and now ‘King Arthur’. So, can you do Pull Ups and Dips everyday and get results? Well, an all bodyweight only workout is exactly what Charlie Hunnam did and added 25-30 lbs of muscle in just 2 months!
Pull Ups and Dips Only
Not only did Charlie Hunnam do Pull Ups and Dips only but he also did just Pull Ups and Dips everyday, and the volume was high! Charlie Hunnam describes his workouts as ‘the oldskool stuff’.

“I did an enormous amount of pull-ups…Pull-ups were like the staple, pull-ups and dips” – Charlie Hunnam on his King Arthur workout.

To get in shape like a KING you’re going to need to be doing a whole bunch of:
- Pull Ups/Chin Ups
- Dips
- Push Ups
- Squats
All unweighted so you’re going to need to increase the reps, sets and volume and/or decrease your rest over time to keep making KING SIZE gains.

During many interviews Charlie Hunnam has spoken in much detail about his bodyweight workout for King Arthur, the official workout with sets and reps is below – it’s a lot! He said his workout was ‘Just doing exclusively bodyweight’.

I recommend alternating Workout A and Workout B and having as much rest in-between each workout as you need. Charlie Hunnam did it all everyday though! That’s a workout fit for a King!

Charlie Hunnam Triple Frontier Workout

In order to add back muscle mass as fast as possible after coming of the back of dieting for his roles in ‘The Lost City of Z’ (2016) and ‘Papillon’ (2017), Charlie Hunnam did heavy weight training along with a high protein diet in order to play an x-Special Forces soldier for ‘Triple Frontier’ (2019).

“I have the eye of the tiger, and I have the sensibility to be formidable. But I don’t have that god-given, raw, physical form. So I need to put on weight and be fit and be as strong as I can, which is why I go and smash heavy weights”.

“It’s a necessity for me to stay in shape. It’s one of the elements of my day to day therapy. I like to stay fit and eat healthy. For this, I had just done a project that I’ve lost a lot of weight for and J.C. wanted me to be as formidable as I could be. So, I just got back to the routine of eating very, very heavily and protein-rich and lifting heavy weights”.

“When you train with heavy weights every day, the physical strength that you get from that gives you an emotional and a mental strength. There’s a deep connection between psychology and physicality”.

Charlie Hunnam loves push ups. Push ups are his staple workout, they are the foundation of every workout he does. Whether that be the 1,000 push ups a day he did for ‘King Arthur’ (2017), as part of his workout for ‘Pacific Rim’ (2013) along with pull ups, dips and Light Dumbbells or as part of a heavy weights workout for ‘Triple Frontier’ (2019).
